Sports & Remedial Massage works on the soft tissues (muscles, tendons, connective tissues etc.) to facilitate the body's natural healing. By combining traditional massage strokes with modern remedial techniques, the therapist is able to reduce pain, and improve flexibility, range of movement, and posture. Sports & Remedial Massage offers an excellent compliment to other mainstream therapies such as Physiotherapy, Osteopathic and Chiropractic treatments.
After an injury the body lays down scar tissue to re-connect and rebuild the injured structure. This is the body's way of healing and is desirable, but sometimes the scar tissue build up can be excessive or misaligned, causing pain, discomfort, and reduced mobility. Often one area of scar tissue can indirectly cause pain in another region in the body so the therapist will assess and treat as appropriate.
You don't have to be a sports person, or even injured to benefit from Sports & Remedial Massage. For instance, if your main job involves many hours sat in front of a computer then this can play havoc on your posture. The connective tissue (fascia) and muscles at the front of the body become shortened causing rounded shoulders and a hunched back with pain in the back, neck, shoulders and sometimes legs. Many clients often have re-occurring headaches accompanying all this discomfort. The therapist has a wide variety of techniques to help bring a positive change.
