'Hello my name is Debra Darke BSc (Hons) Podiatric Medicine, HPC registered Chirpodist/Podiatrist, Cert Ed. I am the owner of Body-In-Balance.'
Body In Balance brings together health professionals and holistic therapies offering services which treat and maintain good health. After qualifying in 1981 and working for the health authority and teaching at the manchester foot hospital and Durham school of podiatry, I set up my chiropody practice at these premisesin 1986. Over the years I have developed my practice in response to the needs of my patients together with advances in knowledge of foot conditions.
Body-In-Balance is still primarily a chirpody/podiatry practice, however because what affects the foot/feet can be dueto or cause problems elsewhere in the body, by offering a range of treatment/therapies which address these problems and by adopting a holistic approach, a personalized treatment plan can be implemented which aims to keep you on your feet, relieve discomfort, maintain wel being and encourage self help. My practice has been known as Fulwell Foot Health for many years. I changed the name to Body-in-Balance five years ago to convey to the public the growing comprehensive nature of what is now available.
CHIRPODY TREATMENTS
This includes ALL skin and nail conditions:- Corns, Hard skin, Cracked heels, Verrucae, Thickened, Discoloured, Fungal, Ingrowing, toenails to name some of the common problems. We are experts in Diabetic Footcare and offer a diabetic foot screening which includes neurological and circulatory assesment. Teatment is carried out painlessly and local anaesthetic can be administered if neccessary. Padding/Dressings are applied if required and advice given. On occassions we recommend creams/medications that have been chosen by myself and are known to be effective. Sometimescorns/hard skin if recurrent can be a symptom of an underlying biomechanical issue, which will benefit from podiatry treatments.
At your first Chiropody or Podiatry visit you wiill be asked to fill in a patient registration form and you will be seen by either myself Debra Darke or Karen who is employed part time and has been with this practice since qualifying in 1991. From time to time locums are also employed. All Chirpodists/Podiatrists working here are HPC registered which is recognised for health insurance purpose. Check your policy to see if you are covered.

'WHEN YOUR FEET HURT YOU HURT ALL OVER'
This is because how the foot is placed on the ground affects the rest of the body as it's moving and vice versa. this may give rise to not only painful feet, but also pain elsewhere such as knee pain, back pain and can even be the cause of migrane. By carrying out biochemical Assesment mail-alignments of the complex musculo-skeletal system are identified and a teatment plan can be implemented.Treatments include; exercises, physical therapy, orthotic shoe therapy, acute chronic conditions including, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, knee/hip pain, sports dance injuries.'growing' pains are sucessfully treated. Some conditions also benefit from holistic therapy and may be suggested. Podiatrist is another name for a chirpodist but indicates that the person also traets biochemical problems, sports injuries and walking related problems and I specialise in this area.
